Healthbeat: Simon Muchemwa and Tsitsi Singizi

There are reports of a rise in the number of malaria cases country-wide, and SWRA correspondent Simon Muchemwa talks about the many factors that are contributing to this alarming increase. The United Nations Children’s Fund has stated their growing concern over the collapse of public services in Zimbabwe, and how this is affecting pregnant women and newborns. Tsitsi Singizi, Communications Officer for UNICEF, says that in the past, 68% of pregnant women would deliver in hospitals and clinics. Now with the closure of most facilities they are either forced to have unsupervised home births or travel while heavily pregnant to neighbouring countries.
