Lynde Francis: Founder and former Executive Director of The Centre for AIDS Services.

It is with a sad heart, deep regret, and a deep sense of loss, that we share our condolences on the passing on of Lynde Francis, a dear friend, colleague, mother and a great pionneer in Zimbabwe’s fight against HIV/AIDS.  VoA is reporting that Ms. Francis passed away on Tuesday in Harare, after having fallen into a coma for several days.  Ms. Francis had been in poor health for the past several months.

Ms. Francis founded The Centre for AIDS services in Harare, which went on to become perhaps Zimbabwe’s foremost counseling and treatment center for HIV/AIDS.  Ms. Francis was also a leading advocate in the fight for HIV/AIDS patients in Zimbabwe, focusing on the role of nutrition as a therapy and a way of combating HIV/AIDS.

We at HAZ are blessed to have known Ms Francis, and to have benefitted from her expertise, her warmth and her compassion.  We have lost a mother, a friend, and a leader in our efforts in Zimbabwe.  May you rest in peace Lynde, and may God bless you for all the good works you have done.

The Centre for AIDS Services wishes to share that Lynde will be cremated in Mutare, following a body viewing service at the Doves Chapel, 157 Harare Street on Thursday 2nd April 2009 from 11:30am – 1.00pm.

On Monday 6th April 2009 from 11:30 – 1.00 there will be a Memorial Service at Celebration Centre to celebrate Lynde’s life. Thereafter all are welcome at The Centre 24 Van Praagh Avenue from 2.00pm-5pm an organisation she founded and will forever be remembered by.
